Case Study
Turning a dormant Toyota blog into a platform that actually sells cars
Toyota Bali started as a blog about the world of Toyota — history, models, Japanese business culture. It never made money. We kept the blog and built something new alongside it: a platform that catalogs every Toyota in Bali by price and connects buyers straight to the sales rep who covers their area.

The Brief
A content blog with no way to make money
Toyota Bali began life as a blog: articles on Toyota's history, classic models like the Land Cruiser and Supra, the founding family, and pieces on Japanese business culture. It's genuinely informative — but a blog about the world of Toyota doesn't generate revenue on its own, and by January 2023 the content had stopped being updated.
The client's brief was clear: turn this into something that can actually monetize. Not a redesign of the blog — a new business built on the Toyota Bali name, one that connects the people already searching for Toyota information in Bali to an actual next step: pricing, financing, and a real sales conversation.
Rather than overwrite the old content, we moved it to blog.toyotabali.com and left it standing as an archive, then built the new business — the OTR price catalog, credit simulator, and sales routing — from scratch on the main toyotabali.com domain.
Before & After
From articles to transactions
A direct comparison between the old blog (now archived at blog.toyotabali.com) and the new platform at toyotabali.com.
Articles about Toyota's history and products, worldwide — interesting to read, but with no connection to actually buying a car in Bali.
A live catalog of 25 Toyota models across 115 variants, each with current on-the-road (OTR) pricing for Bali, starting from Rp 193.9 million.
No way to act on anything read — no pricing, no contact path, no next step for someone ready to buy.
Sales contacts split by region — Denpasar, Gianyar, Tabanan, and Jembrana — so a buyer reaches the rep who actually covers their area instead of a generic call center number.
No tools for a buyer working out what they can afford.
A built-in credit simulator so a visitor can estimate monthly installments for a specific model before ever talking to a salesperson.
No secondary revenue path — the blog only ever talked about new-car topics editorially.
A used-Toyota marketplace in the works, listed free for sellers at launch — a second business line built on the same audience.
Content frozen since January 2023, on an aging WordPress theme, with no reason for a returning visitor to check back.
Pricing that's actively kept current — the catalog is labeled with its last price update — giving buyers a reason to treat it as a live reference, not an archive.
The Rebuild
One page, every Toyota in Bali
The platform is built around a single promise, stated right in the headline: every Toyota car in Bali, on one page — with a real person to talk to at the end of it.
Full OTR price catalog
25 models and 115 variants, each showing current Bali on-the-road pricing and specs — comparable at a glance instead of scattered across dealer pages.
Credit simulator
A calculator that turns a car's price into an estimated monthly installment, so a buyer can self-qualify before reaching out.
Sales routed by region, not a call queue
Contact options are split across four Bali regions, so a lead reaches the salesperson who actually serves that area — closer to a warm introduction than a cold inbound call.
A used-car marketplace on the way
A peer-to-peer marketplace for used Toyotas across Bali, launching free for sellers — a second monetization line the old blog never had.
Rental, alongside the sale
A rental option sits next to the new and used car paths, so the platform can capture a visitor who isn't ready to buy yet.
The old blog, kept — not deleted
The original Toyota history and culture content still lives at blog.toyotabali.com, preserved as its own archive instead of being thrown away in the rebuild.
Built to Be Found
A technical foundation for search — with more to build
The platform launched with the core technical SEO signals in place. Answer-engine and AI-search optimization are the deliberate next phase, not an afterthought.
SEO — Search Engine Optimization
The foundation that lets Google understand what the site is, who runs it, and which pages to rank for Bali car-buying searches.
- Organization and WebSite structured data (schema.org) identifying Toyota Bali by name, URL, and contact email, plus a generated sitemap.xml.
- A meta description written around the exact intent people search for — Bali OTR pricing — rather than generic brand copy.
- A robots.txt that allows full crawling of the catalog and content, with only internal paths (/api/, /sales/, /admin/) excluded — nothing that matters to a search engine is hidden.
AEO — Answer Engine Optimization
Optimizing for the moment a search engine tries to answer a question directly — "how much is a Toyota Avanza OTR in Bali" — instead of just linking to a page.
- Pricing and specs are already laid out as clean, scannable facts per model and variant rather than paragraphs — the right shape for an answer engine to lift, even before dedicated FAQ markup is added.
- FAQPage and per-model Product structured data are the next planned addition — honest status: not live yet, but the content structure is already built to support it.
GEO — Generative Engine Optimization
Making sure AI systems like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity can find and cite the site when someone asks for Toyota pricing or a dealer recommendation in Bali.
- The current robots.txt uses a single wildcard rule for all crawlers rather than naming AI crawlers individually — it doesn't block them, but explicit allow-listing (as done on other VirtualCo projects) is planned rather than shipped.
- The Organization schema already gives generative engines a verifiable anchor — name, URL, contact — to cite the business correctly rather than guessing.
This case study is intentionally specific about what's shipped versus what's next. toyotabali.com just relaunched with its core catalog, pricing, and lead-routing live; FAQ/Product structured data and named AI-crawler rules are the next phase of work, not something already claimed as done.
Have a stalled site that needs a business model?
Toyota Bali kept its content and gained a business on top of it. If you have a site that gets attention but no revenue, this is the kind of rebuild we do — keep what works, add what's missing.
